STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN SIWW AND C40 CITIES

SIWW is pleased to partner with C40 Cities, a global network of cities dedicated to tackling the climate crisis, for SIWW Spotlight 2025!

C40 Strategic Partnership

As part of the strategic partnership, C40 will co-curate SIWW Spotlight 2025 sessions and content, providing opportunities for cities to learn from one another and overcome common challenges in delivering compact and well-connected development centred on flood resilience.

Over forty C40 member cities have been invited to the Cities Roundtable, the flagship programme of SIWW Spotlight 2025, on 23 June 2025. Additionally, C40 will host its closed-door Urban Flooding Network workshop from 22-23 June 2025, during Spotlight 2025.

KEY PROGRAMME HIGHLIGHTS

Joint Opening of SIWW Spotlight 2025 & 41st IAHR World Congress
(23 June 2025 | 9:15AM – 10:00AM)

Cities Roundtable

  • Opening address by Guest-of-Honour, Singapore Minister for Sustainability and the Environment
  • Welcome remarks by Prof Philippe Gourbesville, President, IAHR
  • Address by Chen Min, Vice Minister, Ministry of Water Resources, China

Cities Roundtable (23 June 2025 | 11:00AM – 3:00PM)

Cities Roundtable

SESSION 1: MASTER PLANNING AND FLOOD RISK MANAGEMENT
Master planning is crucial for cities to build flood resilience as it provides a comprehensive framework for managing growth, infrastructure, and land use in ways that minimize flood risks. By aligning urban development with flood risk management strategies, cities can create adaptive, flood-resilient environments that can protect lives, reduce economic losses, and enhance their ability to recover quickly from flood events.

SESSION 2: FLOOD MITIGATION OPERATION AND RECOVERY
Effective flood mitigation operations can minimise the impact of floods on communities, infrastructure, and ecosystems. By implementing measures such as flood control barriers and early warning systems, these operations help to reduce the risk of flooding and protect vulnerable areas.

SESSION 3: COMMUNITY AND SOCIAL RESILIENCE
Strengthening social networks and community engagement can significantly enhance a city’s ability to withstand and recover from flooding events. When communities are actively engaged in flood risk awareness and response, they can respond more quickly and effectively to flood situations.

Joint Spotlight 2025/IAHR2025 High-Level Panels
(24 June 2025 | 9:00AM – 12:30PM)

High-Level Panels

PANEL 1 – CLIMATE-RESILIENT CITIES: THE PIVOTAL ROLE OF WATER
Water plays a pivotal role in various urban systems, contributing to the resilience of cities in the face of climate change. By integrating water into these urban systems—through nature-based solutions, infrastructure enhancements, and policy innovations— cities can strengthen their climate resilience and become more liveable.
